Solar-bills

If you’re a residential solar system owner in Singapore, you may have noticed that you have negative electricity bills from exporting excess energy back to the grid. But how do you actually get that money?

At the time of writing, clear instructions on how to withdraw your solar export earnings don’t seem to be readily available online from SP Group or the Energy Market Authority (EMA). So, we did the legwork for you—here’s exactly how to withdraw your solar export earnings. Tried and tested!

Step-by-Step Guide to Withdrawing Your Earnings

  1. Call SP Group at 1800 222 2333
  2. Press 1, then 1, then 0 to reach a customer service officer.
  3. Enter your SP account number, found at the top right of your utilities bill.
  4. Press # to confirm.
  5. Speak with the officer and request a withdrawal of your solar export credits.

Methods & Timelines

  • PayNow (to a linked account): ~7 working days
  • Direct Bank Transfer (to linked bank account): ~2–3 weeks
  • Offset Against Your SP Bill: ~1–2 weeks
  • Cheque (mailed): ~4–6 weeks

Alternatively, you can also go to https://www.spgroup.com.sg/contact-us and fill in a form

Select:

  1. SP Services – Enquiries on utilities account
  2. Subject: Billing & payment
  3. Refund
  4. Ticket Number: you can leave this blank
  5. Message: Inform SP Group that you would like to withdraw the excess credit
  6. No attachment needed
  7. Fill in your contact details

An SP Group officer will call to confirm your preferred method of credit withdrawal.

Important: To receive a payout, the PayNow or bank account must be registered under the same name as the SP account holder—otherwise, the refund can’t be processed.

Additional Things to Know

  • No recurring withdrawals: You’ll need to call SP Group each time you want to withdraw your credits, as there is no auto-payout feature.
  • You can let credits accumulate and make a lump-sum withdrawal anytime—it’s entirely up to you.

While we hope SP streamlines this in the future, for now, this is the surest way to get your solar dollars back in your hands.

How Is This Different from Current Solar Payment Schemes in Singapore?

These steps are only applicable should you have negative electricity bills reflected after installing solar. Your bills will automatically be reduced through the prevailing schemes that you have signed up for, be it the Simplified Credit Scheme, or the Enhanced Central Intermediary Scheme. You can find out more about these schemes from the official EMA website here.
