An RCCB in a solar PV system is designed to detect earth leakage currentstypically caused by stray capacitance or moisture. When leakage exceeds a safe threshold (typically 30mA), the RCCB disconnects the solar inverter from the grid. This is a normal protective behavior and not necessarily indicative of a fault in the system.
Inverters with degraded insulation or internal component faults may leak current to ground. Some inverters also have built-in leakage monitoring that can trigger RCCB tripping if thresholds are exceeded.
Sudden voltage spikes from nearby lightning strikes or grid disturbances can cause transient leakage currents that trip the RCCB.
Solar panels mounted on metallic frames or rooftops can develop stray capacitance between the live conductors and the grounded structure. During high humidity or rain, this capacitance allows leakage current to flow to earth, which can trip the RCCB even though there is no actual fault.

Locate the RCCB in your distribution board or solar panel area. Afterwards, flip the switch back to the ‘ON’ position to restore power to your solar system.
